Training Day 57 ~ TIRED!

Yeah, I’m really tired and about to go to bed. But I had a good day.

Went to the chiropractor about my upper back. I go back next week. He said he could definitely feel that it was stiff. Just one of those freak things I guess.

Came home and it was pretty late for me to do one of my longer dvds and eat dinner and be ready to go to bed about now. But at the same time I needed to earn some calories for dinner. So…

Hi Level 3 of the 30 Day Shred. Definitely my favorite of the three. Did it and feel good. :)

And now I’m going to get in bed and sleep!!

Training Day 56 ~ Another SRD

Sort of. I scheduled it since I was meeting up with Mom and Daddy for dinner (at Cafe Cluny which is INCREDIBLE!!!!) and a show (next to normal which was sooooo amazing last night!!!) and wouldn’t really have had time to get a workout in.

So for this week, I’m shifting things. My sched is:

today – X-T
tomorrow – run
Thursday – X-T
Friday – run
Saturday – SRD
Sunday – race (10K)

Yay!

I’ll let you know how the X-T goes later on. :)

Training Day 55 ~ SRD

Yesterday was nuts and I didn’t get to post. Not a big deal as it was an SRD for me.

Oh I did plenty of walking. :) But nothing really training either running or cross.

I do know after all the eating with the ‘rents I’m going to have to double down with the dite and exercise. Oy! I’ll get there though. I lost it once, I can do it again!!

Training Day 54 ~ Some days are like that…

AKA Beth and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad run.

Legit. Not my best run today. I really wanted to quit at about mile 2. Nothing was working right. My legs were tired and heavy. My arm hurt where I ran into something the other day and got a bruise. And I was a tad wheezy in spite of the inhaler.

But I decided to do all 10 of my intervals, even if I was walking them. And pushed through.

Yes, I walked a good bit more than normal. Maybe should have dropped it back to 3:1 rather than keeping it at 4:1. But I did get a little more running in and made it my 4 miles.

So woo!

Some runs are better than others I guess. Even in Australia.*

Training Day 53 ~ Old-School Elliptical Time

Today was an x-t day.

And I’m in a Hampton Inn – so no DVD for me. (Ok, I *could* be staying at my apartment. But it’s fun to have a mini-vacation too!!) I got up and hit the fitness center in the hotel.

They have more than the standard one treadmill, one bike OR elliptical, and maybe something resembling a bowflex. They’ve got 4 or 5 treadills, 3 ellipticals, a bike and a bowflex looking thing.

I’d thought going downstairs I’d do the bike, but a guy had chosen the treadmill that is thisclose to the bike, so I ended up on an elliptical. These are old-school. They have a few programs, but it’s not the floaty foot holder things. They’ve got like the little roller ball on tracks. Fun.

So I did my 30 minutes and that was that. :)

Also worked in a little walking by cutting through Central Park to hit the more convenient to where we needed to go trains. Yay! :)

Also decided to take advantage of the no shipping sale at onemoremilerunning.com and get a couple more shirts. One says “kick assphalt” and one says “Does this shirt make my butt look fast?” Hee!! Excited!!

Training Day 52 ~ Trotting for Turkey

Or, you know, bacon cheeseburgers!!

Hi guys!!!!

Sorry it took me a while! I had to a) get a HOT shower and b) get stuff packed for when my parents get to town and c) wash the shameful pile of dishes in my sink before I could come and play on the computer!!

My first 5-mile race was AMAZING!!!!

No, I didn’t win or anything. Well, according to their stuff. I DID win by a) finishing and b) sort of shattering my “stretch goal” time!

First off, I’d gotten cold last night and woke up shivering (gonna have to talk with the landlord about the heat because it doesn’t seem to be coming on as much as last year), and apparently shivered so hard or stretched so hard or something that my front right groin area is sort of twingy. Joy. It was definitely chilly this morning. Thankfully not a lot of wind and no precipitation, so that helped!! I left the door looking like a little raggamuffin – cut off yoga pants (so they are shorts) over running capri tights, running vest and arm warmers in black; my short-sleeved Front Runners shirt in navy; my electric sky blue, silver and white Asics; my grey Broadway Impact hoodie, and my raspberry-colored NYC Marathon headband. Yeah…I was cute! Oh, and my number was pinned to the shorts.

Well, walking on the street from one subway to another, I wasn’t HOT by any stretch of the imagination, but I was not chilled enough that I decided to lose the vest – and then when I got to Prospect Park lose the shorts and put the number on my shirt. Did that. Kept the hoodie on until the last possible moment, when I turned my bag into bag check. At that point I met up with some other Front Runners, and we headed to the starting area.

I don’t know the exact number of people, but there were over 2000 for sure. And no real organization about the start, so it was just sort of wherever.

I had my plan to so 4 minutes running: 1 minute walking, and stuck with it. I knew that doing 3:1 put me right around a 12 minute mile. The first mile went amazingly well – I was under 12 minutes for it. Woo!! The second mile I was even a little quicker…and starting to scare myself, so I consciously tried to slow down a little. I shouldn’t have worried…because in that third mile came The Beast. I ran as much as I could, but I did walk most of it. Still, when I hit the mile 3 marker, the guy calling out the time said 34 (and I forget the seconds). I was STILL under my usual pace (knowing I was running a minute longer than I have been, so that was bound to increase it, I still wasn’t expecting to be that far under what I was expecting)! Kept going and learned that yeah, I need to walk the water stops (I skipped the first one because of crowding…but it was ok since I had my fuel belt with water on me). Hit mile marker #4 and heard “And 46 minutes.” WTF???? All I knew was to hit my stretch goal I’d need to be at 48 minutes at that point (Oh, and I should point out that it took me probably at least 30 seconds to cross the start.), so I knew my stretch goal was well within sight at that point as I was feeling pretty good. I did push a little harder than I should have, and had to drop to a walk, but I picked up running again with the next run interval. I got to just before I could see the clock at the finish and saw the cluster of Front Runners all standing there watching for me – and they exploded when they saw me, cheering me on and pushing me to go for it. So I did – maybe not QUITE all out because of the early-mentioned groin twinginess, but I pushed!

They’ll be posting the official times tomorrow, but for now I’ll go with my Garmin (which I know I took a little while to get stopped for various reasons) time…

57:25!!!!!!

Woohoo!!!!

Also, got my first race bling!!!

My bling!!

So yeah…I’m feeling really good about things now!! :) Dare I try a 5:1 ratio? We’ll see!!!!

Hope everyone has a great Turkey Day!

Training Day 51 ~ Thanksgiving with the Goodmans

If you know me, this likely makes perfect sense. If you don’t…well, read on!

Today was an SRD. With a Turkey Trot tomorrow. And a little thing called Thanksgiving Break. What’s a girl to do?

Go into Manhattan and do the lottery for probably her favorite show. next to normal. So I did. After I’d dropped my name in the bucket, I had about 25 minutes to kill…and didn’t really want to kill them in the wind tunnel known as Shubert Alley. So I wandered around. Checked out the tkts board, and decided if I didn’t get pulled in the lottery I’d head back to tkts and get a ticket to Billy Elliot assuming they still had tickets (and when they’re at 50% there’s a pretty good chance).

Well, I got pulled – left box, which is the better view of the two boxes but the pain in the butt for moving before intermission. Unless you have a very nice usher who lets you know ahead of time that you can move. We were not so lucky tonight, and she opted to tell us AFTER the “turn off your cell phones” announcement when the performance is seconds away from starting. I hopped up to the front portion of the box (those girls had been told by another usher to just sit in the mezz), and the other two stayed put until intermission rather than miss part of the show.

It was great! :)

Of course I did the lovely thing of getting tangled in my jacket and the box curtain and almost completely wiping out coming down the couple of steps out of the box. THAT wouldn’t have been good for tomorrow! Or possibly the Half.

But I survived unscathed.

I got home a few minutes ago and laid out my stuff for tomorrow. I’m probably wearing my old yoga pants that I cut off over my running tights…and pinning my number on those so I can wear my running vest tomorrow. It’s gonna be COLD! BRRRR!!!!

I guess I should probably sleep too.

Sorry for the mostly non-running-related entry. But hey…it was an SRD day! What’s a girl to do?

Training Day 50 – When you don’t want to do anything.

Yeah, this was one of those days. I would have been fine just to eat dinner and go to bed. Maybe throw a hot shower in there.

But it was scheduled as an x-t day, and I really didn’t feel like switching for tomorrow since I think I’m going to lotto a show tomorrow night. So…

I made myself get into HRM, sports bra and workout shorts. And then it was time to decide what to do. So many options.

I went with my shortest – the 30 Day Shred. Did Level 1 again, but with my new 5 pound weights. So OW! But yes, a good ow.

Now? I’ve had dinner. I’m watching “The Event” on DVR (getting caught up). I’m contemplating a shower. And I’m really not sure I’ll make it until 8 before getting in bed. I’m that tired.

Training Day 49 ~ Another Great Run!

Yeah, today was another of those great days. My legs felt a little bit heavy as I got further into the 11 reps, but I kept going. :)

I’ve decided that I want to get a better idea of my run/walk pace, and I know my warm-up and cool-down paces were bringing that average down, so I have started putting those on my Garmin separately and doing the actual workout portion as its own thing.

My average pace? Getting within seconds of a 12 minute mile! WOO!!!

I’m thinking that I might try the 4:1 ratio for the Turkey Trot. Worst case, I add in a little more walking. But it’ll be good to see what that interval pace feels like so I can start figuring out what I want my half interval pace to be. Better to start sooner than later I think! :)

Training Day 48 ~ I can haz arm warmers?!?!?

Hey, it’s an SRD, so not a lot to report. Hang with me here! :P

Church was this morning. It was a good ego boost with people complimenting me on my weight loss. Definitely incentive to keep going to my goal. And stay out of the kitchen for the rest of the night other than to get more water.

Wandered around Manhattan for a while until I saw a play (Life in the Theatre) which I kind of wish I’d skipped. I didn’t think Mamet could be boring. This one is. Blech.

Then it was off to JackRabbit on the Upper East Side (UES) lo get my bib and stuff for the Turkey Trot. And I’ve got arm warmers! We get those instead of a t-shirt. They’re cute! One arm has the JackRabbit logo and one arm has the words “Turkey Trot”. It’s kinda cool! Also got some Team in Training info. I’ve considered them, but honestly I like kind of doing my own thing and training plan and the whole group-think (based on the massive groups I’ve seen in Central Park) stuff kind of scares me. I may go to an information session…but we’ll see.

All in all, it’s been a good day. Now I need to go and lay out my running stuff for tomorrow afternoon. Woo!
