How Thor Halvorssen Fights For Human Rights

Who Is Thor Halvorssen?

Thor Halvorssen is best known for being the founder of the Human Rights Foundation. It was launched in 2006 and is based in New York City. The Human Rights Foundation fights on behalf of basic human rights for oppressed people all over the world. Here is just a small snapshot of what the Human Rights Foundation stands for.

HRF believes that each person has the right to live without fear, and have the freedom to worship freely. It also believes in and promotes free speech, self determination and the right to take part in the government in which they live under. The Human Rights Foundation speaks out against violations of human rights abuses and aims to end torture, detainment, slavery and the stifling of freedom of speech and thought.

Thor Halvorssen comes from Venezuela where he was born and raised. His roots include Norwegian government officials who were stationed in Venezuela during World War II. He also traces his ancestry through his mother to Venezuela’s first president and Simon Bolivar, who helped South American colonies, win independence from Spain.

Fighting for human rights and freedom is in Thor’s blood and he has shown a strong willingness to speak up on behalf of those who are oppressed and face persecution in their own home countries.

Thor Halvorssen’s attitude to fighting against human rights abuses and oppression is to get down and dirty. He says he and his organization do not focus on minor issues in the United States such as the practice of child farm labor in the United States.

He also believes that groups based in the USA spend too much time and resources addressing relatively minor issues in the United States, when there is big fish abroad.

Thor Halvorssen focuses his attention to the big fish in the human rights world. He calls out human rights abuses directly such as those in Venezuela and Cuba. He even travels to places where abuses and oppression take place such as in Vietnam.
